New Frontiers in Biomineral Formation Research

New Frontiers in Biomineral Formation Research

We are pleased to announce that the international workshop “New Frontiers in Biomineral Formation Research: From Pre-nucleation clusters to the Final Crystals” will be held on October 7-9, 2014. Research on the formation of biominerals, like calcium carbonate, has entered a new phase with the discovery of  non-classical crystallization pathway. In this workshop, the recent progress with both experimental work and computer simulation will be discussed by leading young scientists in this field. We are looking forward to many people, especially young researchers and students, taking opportunity to attend.

Keynote Speakers

  • Denis Gebauer (University of Konstanz, Germany)
“The Pre-nucleation Cluster Pathway of Mineral Formation”
  • Raffaella Demichelis (Curtin University, Australia)
“Understanding nucleation, crystal growth, and polymorphism of biominerals through computer modeling”
  • Adam Wallace (University of Delaware, USA)
“CaCO3 precursors: A revised interpretation based on experimental and theoretical evidence”
